About Suan Sook

A Retreat Built
Around Real Life

We started with a simple question: what would a genuinely comfortable later life actually look like? Suan Sook is our answer.

Our Story

How Suan Sook Came to Be

Suan Sook — which translates loosely as "garden of wellbeing" — was established in Hua Hin with a specific intention: to create a place that felt like a home rather than a facility. The founders had spent years accompanying their own parents through moves into assisted living, and had noticed how rarely those environments seemed genuinely pleasant to live in.

They chose Khao Tao, a quiet coastal area south of Hua Hin town, for its calm atmosphere, proximity to the sea, and the easy rhythm of life it naturally encourages. The early years were spent listening closely — to residents, to visiting families, and to the staff who spent the most time with people day to day.

That listening shaped what Suan Sook has become: a place where the pace is unhurried, the surroundings are genuinely beautiful, and the staff are chosen as much for warmth and patience as for any formal qualification. We remain a small operation by choice — it is the only way to keep the quality of everyday attention where we want it.

Our Mission

What We're Here to Do

Our mission is to provide residential living that treats people as individuals — not as patients, not as residents in a general sense, but as particular people with their own preferences, habits, and ways of spending a good day.

Warmth Without Condescension

Care that is attentive and kind, without being patronising or removing independence.

Space to Simply Be

No schedules imposed, no pressure to participate. Community available for those who want it, solitude for those who prefer it.

Honesty With Families

Transparent communication about what we offer, what we don't, and how things are going day to day.

The People Here

A Small Team, Carefully Chosen

Everyone who works at Suan Sook is selected first and foremost for their disposition — patient, warm, and genuinely interested in the people they spend their days with.

NP

Nattapong Pichit

Residence Director

Nattapong has spent over fifteen years working in hospitality management in southern Thailand. He joined Suan Sook to help shape a different kind of residential experience — one that borrows from hospitality's attention to comfort without losing sight of the human dimension.

SR

Sunisa Rattanapon

Programmes Coordinator

Sunisa designs and runs the Cultural Enrichment programme. She has a background in Thai arts and education and takes evident pleasure in finding new ways to make each month's schedule feel interesting and personal for the people taking part.

WL

Wanida Lertchai

Head of Resident Care

Wanida oversees the day-to-day wellbeing of all residents and coordinates the housekeeping and kitchen teams. She is the primary contact for families and takes particular care to keep communication clear and timely.

How We Work

Our Standards in Everyday Practice

These are not policies we display on a wall — they are the practical commitments that shape how the team operates from one day to the next.

Resident Privacy

Personal information is handled with care. We do not share details with third parties. Residents may review their records at any time.

Food Safety & Nutrition

All meals are prepared on site. Ingredients are sourced fresh from local suppliers. Dietary needs are accommodated thoughtfully, not grudgingly.

Staff-to-Resident Ratio

We maintain a deliberate staffing level that allows team members to spend real time with residents rather than rushing between obligations.

Safety & Emergency Readiness

All common areas and residential units meet current Thai safety standards. Emergency procedures are reviewed with staff regularly, and signage is clear and accessible.

Open Communication

Families receive regular updates by phone or message. We do not wait for problems to contact people — we stay in touch as a matter of course.

Environmental Consideration

We prefer local suppliers, reduce single-use plastics where possible, and tend the grounds in a way that supports the natural coastal landscape around us.

Our Values in Practice

Senior Residential Living on Thailand's Gulf Coast

Suan Sook occupies a position on Thailand's Gulf Coast that is both practical and quietly special. Hua Hin has long drawn those who want coastal living without the intensity of busier resort towns — its pace, its markets, its long seafront, and its proximity to Bangkok make it an appealing base for people who want to be genuinely settled somewhere rather than simply visiting.

For seniors considering a residential move, Thailand offers a particular combination of characteristics: a warm climate that many find kind to the body, a cultural disposition toward respect for older people, fresh and varied food, and a cost of living that provides genuine quality without the financial strain of many Western alternatives. At Suan Sook, we bring together these advantages in a setting that has been thought through carefully.

Our team draws on backgrounds in Thai hospitality, education, and community care. We are not a medical operation and do not position ourselves as one. What we offer is something different — a place to live well, to maintain personal interests, to form connections, and to be genuinely looked after in the practical sense of that phrase. That may seem modest as a description. In practice, it is exactly what most people are looking for.

Families based overseas often find that Suan Sook provides a reassurance they had not expected: the knowledge that someone is paying real attention to how the person they love is getting on, and will let them know — promptly and honestly — if anything changes or if any adjustment would help.
